Finalize a Short Term Rental (STR) Ordinance​ ​​

• Current laws prohibit operation of private business out of homes zoned as residential

• Still, STRs (Air BnB, VRBO, etc) currently operate in Norton Shores with zero oversight for community accountability, appropriate tax assessments, nor safety inspection 

• Eli has worked tirelessly to highlight and clarify how out-of-control STRs create negative pressure on housing availability, which directly impacts the rising cost of buying a home

• Eli promotes policy which will allow lawful operation of STR businesses in residential districts, but only with common sense limits and safety measures

• Allowances should NOT reduce affordable housing options for residents, nor cause disruption to neighborhood ambiance

• Policies should not advantage out-of-town deep pocket investors at the expense of local residents 

 

Continued transportation developments for drivers and non-drivers​

• ​road resurfacing and repair,

• shared-lane bicycle routes,

• off-road trails connecting us to local parks and neighboring communities, and

• improved public transit options
   

Honor the gifts of our natural environment. Land stewardship includes:

• Ensure clean water infrastructure​ through programs like cross-connection backflow contamination prevention

• Monitor and support healthy, sustainable wildlife populations (yes - this means deer and turkeys)

• Maintain quality, shared-access recreation. Dedicated spaces allow enjoyment together in our great outdoors with less risk of unintended erosion or water pollution (we provide the bins - please pick up pet waste!)

• Responsible Outdoor Lighting in alignment with dark sky standards to reduce light pollution and improve night sky conservancy
